Lake Kerkini and Bulgaria
A photography tour for Dalmatian pelicans on Lake Kerkini in Greece followed by vultures, golden eagle and a variety of woodland birds. Despite only a handful of species expected this trip offers a large variety in terms of situations, especially with the pelicans. These are photographed from both the lake shore and from boats and you can expect almost every type of shot from flights, swimming, perched, backlit, silhouetted and feeding, all with single and multiple birds. The surrounding mountains provide a great backdrop for wide angles. The raptors in the mountains just across the border in Bulgaria offer a vast change from the birds of the lake and we spend a couple of days in a well equipped large hide with Black and Griffon vulture and Golden eagle as our main targets. Occasionally Wolf and Jackal can also appear.
Another day is spent with woodland birds with Hawfinch and Brambling being the prize targets.
